eSports Joins The 2022 Asian Games

eSports Joins The 2022 Asian Games
In 2022, eSports will be an official medal event at the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China. This was announced earlier on Tuesday by the Olympic Council of Asia.

"It will also feature in next year's 18th Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia, again as a demonstration sport," the Olympic Council of Asia said in a statement. "By the time of the 19th Asian Games in 2022, however, eSports will become an official medal sport -- reflecting the rapid development and popularity of this new form of sports participation among the youth."

This is a huge deal for eSports on the whole, as it continues to prove that it has an exciting future as a competitive and entertaining sport.

The only games/genres listed for the events at the moment are FIFA 2017, MOBAs, and RTS games. Specific titles for MOBA and RTS were not mentioned, though it's a safe assumption that we'll see League Of Legends and StarCraft II among the ranks.

ESports continues to grow, evolve, and find its place in the world of competition and entertainment. We're excited to see where it goes next.
